QMS Technical Writer

Position Summary

The Technical Writer is responsible for creating and maintaining end-user documentation for multiple divisions of C&J. The Technical Writer's responsibilities also include the creation of technical documentation such as test plans, procedures, assembly, dis-assembly, maintenance, and operational procedures.

Key Accountabilities

  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel.
  • Confer with engineers, technicians, operations personnel, vendors, and managers to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication (assembly, dis-assembly, maintenance, operational procedures, etc.).
  • Work with engineering, manufacturing, and operations personnel on updating documents per ECN's, ECR's and other modifications as the need arises.
  • Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction.
  • Generate or select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
  • Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and products to integrate engineering, manufacturing, operations procedure, and production.
  • Interview engineering and manufacturing personnel and read journals and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
  • Observe manufacturing, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedures and details. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have good technical writing skills -- clear, comprehensive and grammatically correct writing.
  • Ability to analyze information from multiple sources and create documentation for users with varying technical abilities.
  • Must be able to manage documentation needs for multiple products and software applications while working with multiple subject matter experts and reviewers.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (including Visio) and Adobe products.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to initiate projects independently while soliciting feedback from all key personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Works well in a team environment 

Required Experience and Education

  • 4 year Bachelor's degree, from an accredited school, majoring in Engineering, English, Journalism, or related discipline.
  • Previous experience working in an Oilfield environment technically writing about oilfield tools and equipment is greatly preferred.
