Position Summary


The DOT Coordinator was established for the purposes of monitoring the Company’s Commercial fleet and its drivers, educating company employees on Federal and state laws, as well as company policy, increasing the overall safety of company vehicles that are being operated, and advising the operations group on DOT related issues. The DOT Coordinator works with Operations, QHSE and Fleet to accomplish these goals.

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform Level 1 Federal DOT inspections on company equipment to ensure compliance with regulations and communicate to company mechanics any defects or problems found on inspections.
  • Check pre and post trip inspection reports to ensure that they are being done properly.
  • Inspect Shipping papers for HAZ-MAT loads to ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Check Hazardous Material loads for compliance with regulations.
  • Generate incident and violation reports and submit to DOT Manager for review; address any recurring patterns and causality.
  • Attend safety meetings and address DOT related topics with employees.
  • Respond to HM incidents and insure reporting requirements and general procedures are being followed.
  • Provide training on hours of service, including remedial and in yard training as required by the phased log corrective action policy. 
  • Provide training on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports, including remedial and in yard training as required by the DVIR corrective action policy.
  • Provide education on hours of service requirements and ensure Operations understand the legal consequences of permitting or encouraging drivers to drive out of hours or with vehicle defects.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Detailed knowledge of PHMSA and FMCSA regulations under Title 49 of the CFR.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to identify problems and direct efforts to address these issues using the appropriate resources.
  • Can effectively communicate correct procedures with a variety of field employees

Required Experience and Education

  • Associate degree or
  • 5 plus years’ experience with the inspection of commercial vehicles. 
  • Previous DOT Auditing experience required. 
  • Must have been certified to perform the North American Standard driver/vehicle inspections
